Adi Shankaracharya
Adi Shankaracharya of 8th century was the greatest exponent of the doctrine of Advaita Vedanta. He explained your intelligence is most important. That controls mind. Try and be aware about your own mistakes you make with Vivek Buddhi (levelled mind). Try to understand what is constant and what is changing. That is Vivek. Do not get attached to the changing. Focus only on constant that is vairagya means detachment.
Sant Dnyneshwar
Sant Dnyneshwar talks about “Religion of Humanity”. He says, “Behave like a human being. Perform your duties whole day, while chanting God’s name so that you will perform them honestly. Let the children have sufficient food to eat, and then you eat. Give food to the animals around you. Take care of each person as yourself. After death let others decide whether to give you fire or to burry you.”
Sant Tukaram
Sant Tukaram has written “Tukaram Gatha” consist of 4148 abhang (eternal compositions) are the talks with God Pandurang. For last 1000 years the gatha is taken from Dehu Road (His birth place) to Pandharpur by the people. One of his abhang says,” God gives direction to each person as per his ability, just walk on that path.” Tukaram Maharaj is very kind and generous. He says “where there is kindness, forgiveness and calmness, God stays there”. He told Shivaji Maharaj “Raja complete your duties of a King with honesty and efforts. At the same time chant God’s name to be a powerful king.”
Sant Ramdas
Sant Ramdas is a great devotee of ShriRam. His books like Dasbodh, Manache Shlokas are very transcendental and take you to a higher level. But at the same time he is very practical. Dasbodh tells the philosophy through very easy words. One can very much start his philosophy lessons from Dasbodh. The popular story about Ramdasswami is, he ran away from his marriage at the age of 12. He was aware even then of his purpose in life. At the age of 24 he was blessed by Shri Hanuman.
He started many wrestling schools to improve the health of the youth. He was the only saint who was good at politics too. He guided Shivaji Maharaj in his difficulties.
Sant Vardanandbharati (Anantraiji Athwale)
He is a well known saint from Maharashtra who took Samadhi in September 2002, after completing his mission for society. He went around for 50 years educating the Society through his kirtans(songs). He has written number of books explaining the Vedas and Upanishads in a poetry form. He proved that after practicing meditation one can really decide the day of Samadhi. One can have so much control on his breathe that he can stop breathing and can start his heavenly journey.
